Mangalore, Jul 2: Come Sunday, the central market swells by leaps and bounds and the market stretches itself into all the nearby lanes and roads.
Street vendors come in large numbers and occupy places in central talkies road, maidan road and the main road near Town Hall to the extent that walking and driving practically becomes impossible.
Though operations to evacuate these vendors were made in the past, it had yielded no results. However, following several complaints from locals, on Sunday, Bunder police showed up in the area again to clear the encroached footpath and walk ways.
Vendors trading fruits, vegetables and other goods smugly carry on their business putting up stalls on the roadsides, creating inconvenience to passers by.
Further the customers throng to these stall and stand on the street while making a buy. Due to this crowd and chaos entire stretch of street is engulfed leaving little space for vehicle users and pedestrians.
If these vendors are evicted then the move creates lot of noise and protests. Hence the Bunder police resorted to only shifting the stalls to the sides, clearing the roads for the commuters.
