In a press release, the Air India Express has stated that if any passenger carries more than 20kgs check-in baggage, there will be a nominal flat charge, for eg, SAR 30 ex DMM, for the first 10kgs of excess baggage or part thereof.
Passengers and travel agents can book the additional baggage allowance through the system while booking their ticket or subsequently, through an XBAG SSR. The system will reflect this SSR only from the effective booking date of August 22, 2013.
The flat charge may also be availed of at the airport; however, passengers would also have to pay the GHA fee in addition to the flat charge. The EBG rate for check-in baggage in excess of 30kgs will continue to apply, at the rate of SAR 5O.per kg.
When the passenger manifest reflects XBAG against a passenger record, it implies that he/she has paid for 10kgs EBG. Baggage weighing more than 30kgs is to be charged at the normal rate of SAR % per kg. There is no change in the free baggage allowance for excess baggage charges on flights ex India.
Passengers ticketed prior to August 22, 2013 will continue to be entitled to 30kgs FBA, as reflected on their itinerary receipt, irrespective of the date of the travel. Free baggage allowance on flights ex India, including domestic sectors, remains unchanged at 20kgs per passenger, stated the release.
