Karanth award for Mohan Alva

Udupi, Sep 17: M Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri, has been chosen for the Dr Kota Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti.

The award instituted by the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat in Udupi district, in memory of the Jnanpith award winner late Dr. Karanth, is being given annually since 2005.

Anand C. Kundar, executive president of the award foundation, told presspersons that Dr Alva had been chosen for the award in recognition of his contribution to the fields of education and culture.

The award would be given to Dr. Alva at the Shambhavi School in Kota on October 10 coinciding with the birth anniversary of late Karanth.

The earlier recipients of the award are Union Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily (2005), former Karnataka Lokayukta N. Venkatachala (2006), educationist K.R. Hande (2007), journalist and writer Ravi Belegere (2008), senior Yakshagana artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde (2009), filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli (2010), environmentalist Salumarada Thimakka (2011) and noted theatre personality B. Jayashree (2012).

A 10-day programme would be held as part of Karanth's birth anniversary at Kota from October 1 to 10.
