PFI distributes interest free loans to students

Mangalore, Oct 4: “Today's youth think of working abroad and earning more money for themselves. Serving the society and the needy is not on their mind. Harekala Hajabba is a role model for all youth,” said K S Muhammad Masood, president Muslim Central Committee.

He was speaking after distribution loan scholarships- 2013 for students organised by Popular Front of India (PFI) at St Aloysius College Auditorium on Friday.

He said that education is a must in today's society and Harekala Hajabba, an illiterate orange vendor has understood this and has toiled to run a school in his village.

Mr Masood said that minority community should support its members to join Indian Administrative Service and journalism to build sound nation.

“Even women empowerment is needed in strengthening the society”, he said.

Mohammed Kakkinje of PFI welcoming the gathering said that the association is distributing scholarships as loan without interest. It has to be repaid after receiving job. The amount repaid will be utilised to provide education loan to other needy students.

He said that a total of Rs 10.85 lakh has been distributed among 200 needy students in the state. The organisation has reserved 20 percent of the funds reserved for the community priests' children.

“When we understand the feeling of a community celebration then only we can think of strong country. There is need for understating and trust between communities”, said Walter Maben, chairman of Karnataka Mission Network in his chief guests speech.

Harekala Hajabba and Vasudeva Bolur of Ahinda movement were the guests of honour during the occasion.
