Mangalore, Oct 5: The idols of Navadurgas and Ganesha were installed at the Kudroli Sri Gokarnatheshwara Temple in Mangalore Saturday, thereby giving a start to the resplendent Navarathri celebration.
Devotees thronged the temple to get a glimpse of idols of goddess Sri Sharada, Navadurge and Lord Ganesha even though it was raining heavily.
The rituals started with a inside Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple after puja and other religious rituals around 11.30am. The procession went around the temple and idols were installed inside the premises.
Installation of the idol of goddess Sharada was done by the Rajesh Shekar, Principal, Arts College, Shivmogga after lighting the traditional lamp.
Devotees offered arathi, hannu kayi and other offerings to the goddess during the Pooja.
“Since I live in Mysore we were found of Mysore Dasara and this year my daughter started her studies in Mangalore. So we thought of attending Dasara here and came along with family members. It is a new experience,” says Rukmini Nagaraj of Ittigegudu, Mysore.
Yashodhara Sherigar, a resident of Pune, who paid a visit to his native after attending pooja at Kudroli said, “hardly we get chance to visit Mangalore and this time I came with my children since they have holidays. Visiting Mangalore during Navarathri has been a great decision that we took because we will cherish this spiritual extravaganza forever," he said.
