Belthangady, Oct 16: With continued attacks on Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade alleging him of having played a role in closing the matters of Unnatural Deaths in Belthagady area, including that of Saujanya rape and murder case, Dr Heggade has said that there is a systematic plot being hatched to tarnish the image of the pious land of Dharmasthala and to spoil it's sanctity.

“The State and police have to be held responsible for any such cases and hence they are answerable to public about the same. I am not here to take responsibility for such things,” he said.

Addressing a news conference at Vasanth Mahal at Dharmasthala, he said that Nagarika Seva Trust, Mahesh Shetty Timarodi and several others are trying their level best to dent the image of the'Kshethra'.

“Their move has hurt me because they are trying to belittle the'Dharmadhikari'. However, this has not bogged me down. The work at the temple has been going on as it is. I believe that Majunatha Swamy, Annappa Swamy and the'Dharmadevathas' will answer them,” he said coming down heavily upon his opponents for the kind of language they have used to lodge allegations against the temple and the management.

Clarifying that he and his family had never intervened or tried to pressurise the authorities looking into Saujanya murder case and double murder case that had happened in Belthangady, Dr Heggade said that both the murders had happened outside the temple vicinity but yet, when the incidents occurred he had called the then home minister and urged for an unbiased inquiry. “I had later urged for a CID inquiry in the matter. Now I see Nischal (nephew) and my name being dragged into the case unnecessarily. When the incident happened he was not in India,” he said producing the proof through his passport and bank transactions.

Devotees unhappy

Dr Heggade said that with certain persons making baseless allegations in a private news channel, dragging the name of the temple too in it has left the devotees unhappy.

“The devotees have asked me to remain calm. There will be no acts of provocation from my side,” he said adding that he has been contemplating of moving to court against all those individuals who have made baseless allegations against him and his family.

Insurance amount

Clarifying the allegation made by Saujanya's family that the SDM institution has not paid the insurance amount to the victi's familym, Dr Heggade said that to avail the insurance amount from the college the victim's family has to submit the death certificate.

“Saujanya's family has not done the procedures despite requests from the college management. Now they are holding it against us,” he said adding that allegations have been made with regard to the anomalies existing in the ownership of SDM institution's land and in this direction he will submit all the documents to the revenue department.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
