Bangalore, Jun 16: Karnataka Minorities and Wakf Minister Qamarul Islam today said the state government has issued orders to extend a monthly honorarium payment scheme to Pesh Imams (chief imams in Masjid) and Muazzins (those who call people for the congregational prayer in Masjids) and those working in various wakf institutions in the state.

"A monthly honorarium of Rs 3,100 to the Pesh Imams and Rs 2,500 to Muazzins will be paid by the government after completion of every three months," minister said in a statement here.

The scheme will be applicable to those wakf institutions whose income is less than Rs one lakh per annum, he said.

Karnataka State Wakf Board will obtain Attendance Certificate in respect of Pesh Imams and Muazzins serving in the respective wakf institutions, scrutinise them as per rules and send proposals to government for sanction of honorarium, Islam said.

After government sanctions and releases the honorarium to the Karnataka State Wakf Board, it will be released to the respective accounts of Pesh Imams and Muazzins through online.
