Mangaluru, Jun 3: The Ullal City Municipal Council has served notices on a car showroom management and bar management near Thokkottu-Kapikad on the outskirts of the city, for leaving sewage water by the roadside.
The officials on Tuesday conducted an inspection at Maruti Suzuki showroom and sales dealership and Wine and Dine bar and restaurant near Thokkottu-Kapikad under the Ullal CMC limits and found that waste water from the two establishments was being left on the roadside nearby, which emanated a foul smell in the area.
The locals said that even after repeated attempts to convince the owners of the bar and restaurant and management of the car showroom not to leave the sewage water on the roadside, it was not effective. There is a temple and around 100 homes in the vicinity of the establishments.
Based on the complaint lodged by locals, Municipal Commissioner Roopa Shetty, CMC president Girija Bai and concerned health officers inspected the premises of the two establishments. Finding that waste water was left to flow in the open, the officials slapped notices on the two establishments for polluting the area.
The two establishments have been warned to ensure that an alternative pit was dug for the waste water to flow, within a week, failing which their licences would be cancelled. Girija Bai pulled up the health officials for overlooking such a mismanagement.
