Bengaluru, Nov 29: A private survey has revealed that most of the people still consider newspapers as most trustworthy source of information.
Bollywood tops a list of categories containing fake news as per the survey conducted by market research firm Chrome Data Analytics & Media.
Social media platforms were seen by 46% of a total of 847 respondents interviewed as the easiest way to spread fake news. About 54% were not aware about fake news, as per the study.
The study was conducted in urban India among the age group of 18-55+ and comprised 46% women and 54% men. “It [fake news] is spreading fast and cluttering the news space,” according to a statement from Chrome Data.
Most of the fake news originated from Bollywood with 23% voting in the category followed by international, politics and gadget news.
Forty-four percent of respondents voted for GPS chip in new 500 and 2,000 currency notes as the number one fake news in the country. Others included a shortage of salt in India, the Reserve Bank of India banning 10 rupee coins and UNESCO declaring 'Jana Gana Mana' as the best national anthem in the world.
