Bengaluru, Jun 11: The state BJP said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released Rs 771.44 crore to the agriculture sector in Karnataka in the past three years.

The funds released by the Centre to Karnataka as flood relief since 2014 amounted to around Rs 4,500 crore. There has been no shortage of fertiliser in the country after Modi assumed office. In addition, the price has come down by Rs 5,000 per tonne, the BJP said.

Without ascertaining these facts, Congress leaders, including senior leader Prithviraj Chavan, have been making “casual remarks” against Modi, the BJP said.

BJP spokesmen Vaman Acharya and Ashwathnarayana, addressing the media, said Chavan has no moral right to criticise Modi. When Digvijaya Singh was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, 24 farmers had died in police firing, they pointed out.

The BJP leaders said that like the Congress, even the JD(S) has been criticising the BJP for the Haveri firing. But the JD(S) should not forget that eight persons had died in the unrest after the demise of film actor Rajkumar. At that time, H D Kumaraswamy was the chief minister, they pointed out.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
