Mangaluru, Mar 18: A case had been registered at Uppinangady police station against a student for posting a derogatory post against Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) on Facebook.
Resident of Uppinangady Adesh Shetty, a student of Vivekananda College in Puttur, had posted a derogatory cartoon of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) on his Facebook profile, where the Islamic religious figure was allegedly portrayed as a rapist.
In this regard, a few local Muslims under the leadership of Uppinangady Nagarika Kriya Samiti, have lodged a complaint against Adesh Shetty.
A slightly tense situation prevailed when several Muslim locals gathered in front of the police station demanding an immediate arrest of student Adesh Shetty for derogating the Prophet on a social networking site.
In view of this derogatory post, the Nagarika Kriya Samiti has called for a bandh in Uppinangady on Wednesday and warned of intense protests if the accused student was not arrested by the police.
As precautionary measures, police security has been deployed in the town to prevent any untoward incidents or disruption of law and order over the Facebook post.
