Bengaluru, Jun 4: Actor politician Kamal Haasan on Monday met Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy here and discussed the issue of sharing of Cauvery water.
At a joint press conference after the meeting, Haasan said he is ready to bridge the gap between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the contentious Cauvery river water sharing issue.
Mr. Kamal Haasan clarified that he came as representative of the people of Tamil Nadu, not as an actor or a political leader.
“I am ready to be the bridge between the two States. We need water for kuruvai crop. Mr. Kumaraswamy has responded positively,” he added.
Mr. Kumaraswamy told media persons that maintaining harmonious relation between the two States and expediting the resolution of the issue keeping the interest of farmers of both the States in mind were discussed.
“We have not discussed anything about the Rajnikanth starrer ‘Kaala’. That is related to the Film Chamber,” Mr. Kumaraswamy said.
Haasan recently launched his party Makkal Needhi Maiam and plans to contest the next Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Haasan, however, has so far not spoken about contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
