New Delhi, Feb 24. 2021: Muslim women intellectuals and scholars from around the world have unanimously given a clarion call to adopt Islamic teachings for nurturing a happy family and a stronger society.

They were speaking at an international webinar on the central theme of the ongoing 10-day campaign `Strong Family, Strong Society’, organized by the Department of Women, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH).  The campaign is being conducted from 19 Feb. to 28 Feb. 2021.

Global Muslim women scholars like Dr. Zeenath Kausar from Malaysia, Ms.Yasmin Mogahed from USA, Dr. Sabrina Lei from Italy, Dr. Mahera Rubey from UK, Ms.Shareefa Fadhel from Qatar, Ms. Rahamathunnissa, India spoke on the different aspects and issues related to the family and the social system.

Renowned Malaysian educator and scholar Dr. Zeenath Kausar expressing her views on the topic ‘Present Scenario of Families across the World’, said, “now there are decreasing rates of marriage and increasing rates of divorces and emerging new non-conventional families including LGBTQ.  The root causes for them are the liberalism and feminist ideologies of the West. Now new liberal and radical thoughts, which are emerging from them, have direct evil implications on the institution of the family. One of them is absolute sexual and reproductive rights, which actually means separating sexuality and reproductive rights from marriage and the family. Secondly, in vitro fertilization, surrogate mothering and several other technologies which are exploited by non-marital reproduction components. For that reason they have created avenues for non-marital families and adultery.” She has underlined that family is the primary institution from which all other institutions emerge. “If there is no family, there will be no institution and no institution means no society. If there is no society, there will be a jungle of wild forest of unorganized human beings. Family is the first university which teaches us values of love, care and sacrifice,” she added.

An Arab female entrepreneur and scholar from Qatar Mrs.Shareefa Fadhel speaking on `Impact of Family Condition on Economic, Social and Political Scenario’, focused on the husband-wife responsibilities, distribution of works, home economics and housekeeping.  Calling households just like small firms and businesses, she said that they played a main role in social production as well as a large role in the development of the country and the economy. She called for recognizing the value of domestic work, mother, and the extended family. “Teach your children the basic economics. It includes roles and responsibilities, planning, teamwork, savings and investments, and creating a reward system. Women have an important role. If you are a woman, take care. You are an important brick of society like a man. Marriage is the binding and joining of two parties beyond two people. It is between two families and two communities. A new brick is laid with every new formation of a family and that is an integral part of society,” she added.

Expert on the family issues, Dr. Mahera Rubey, from the United Kingdom, talking on ‘Building bond between husband and wife’, stressed upon developing the attitude of Gratitude. She cited various verses from the holy Quran and sayings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) for strengthening the conjugal relationships. She quoted the Quran, which says, ‘Another of His signs is that He created spouses from among yourselves for you to live with in tranquillity: He ordained love and kindness between you.’  Citing the Prophet quotation, she has explained that love and security are the two essentials, which a spouse needs from the partner. The Prophet said, “the best of you is the one who is best to his wife and I am the best of you to my wives.”

Noted woman Muslim scholar from Italy Dr. Sabrina Lei, presenting her views on the topic `Family Life Supports and Safeguards Spiritual and Moral Aspects of Life’, has thanked Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for conducting the campaign on a theme, which is not only important for the Muslim community but for the future of the world. She said, “India is known for tolerance and harmony. I pray to Allah for strengthening peace, justice and harmony in the country. They are also required for nurturing a family system, for which Islam teaches us.”

USA based writer and scholar Ms.Yasmin Mogahed speaking on her topic ‘Magic of maintaining relationships’ asserted for keeping balanced relations with each member of the family and investing required time on each other. Advising to abide by the guidelines directed by Allah Almighty regarding family life, she said, “our relations should not revolve around merely on any member of the family. Conjugal relations should not be ignored because of the children or parents, or vice versa. It is injustice to neglect any member of the family due to another.”

Concluding the webinar, the Campaign in-charge and Co-secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Mrs.Rahamathunnissa, said, “if you want to maintain a good relationship, let us focus on the good aspects of the people. Islam teaches us a very practical, simple and natural system of the family life. Let us adopt it and learn more about it. We become more spiritual and complete our faith by getting married. So, my advice to youngsters is to get married without delay. The basic idea of the family system, why Islam has given it importance, is because every person’s basic need is fulfilled in it. That is why it is considered worship in Islam. In the name of liberty, people abandon families and values. In that process they ironically get enslaved and trapped in unwanted relationships and drug addicts. Initially, you get attracted. In the long run, when you lose charm, beauty, and health you realize what went wrong.”

Ms. Fakhira Atheeq, Assistant Secretary of JIH Women’s department proposed a vote of thanks to the speakers, the participants and the hosts.

Bengaluru: A red alert denoting severe heat wave has been issued for six districts of Karnataka by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), as temperatures are likely to cross 46 degrees Celsius.

Bagalkote, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Koppal districts will see temperatures ranging from 40 to 46 degrees Celsius between May 1 and May 9, according to KSNDMC.

The monitoring centre also pointed out that when comparing the maximum temperature recorded in Karnataka in the past seven years – between 2017 and 2024 – April 30, 2024 recorded the highest, 45.6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, in a statement released by the India Meteorological Department in Bengaluru, the trough/wind discontinuity from southeast Madhya Pradesh to South Interior Karnataka (SIK), across Vidarbha, Marathawada and North Interior Karnataka (NIK) extending up to 1.5km above mean sea level persists.

But as per IMD, the department issued a severe heat (red) alert only when the actual maximum temperature crosses 47 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperatures are likely to continue and also be around 40 to 46 degrees Celsius over parts of NIK districts, such as Raichur, Kalaburgi, Yadgir, Bellary and Vijayapura districts till May 6, the natural disaster management centre said on social media platform X.

The remaining NIK districts, most of the SIK districts and Dakshina Kannada district are likely to experience maximum temperature between 40 and 44 degrees Celsius, it added.

Parts of Kodagu, Udupi, Hassan, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and parts of Uttara Kannada districts are likely to experience between 33 and 40 degrees Celsius till May 6, according to the centre.

From May 7, maximum temperatures are likely to come down by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across the state, according to KSNDMC.

Meanwhile, as per realised rainfall across the state data by KSNDMC, while isolated rains were observed in six districts -- Haveri, Dharwad, Gadag, Vijayapura, Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada -- dry/negligible rains were received in 25 districts, including Bengaluru rural and urban on April 30.

Maximum rainfall of 35mm was recorded at Bhogavi in Haveri district.

As per the cumulative date of rainfall from January 1 to April 30, only coastal Karnataka recorded an excess of 59% rainfall from usual, while the rest of Karnataka had deficit rainfall ranging from 13% to 80%, said a press release by KSNDMC, which compiles the data from telemetric rain gauge locations established by it across the state.

revannaarrest.jpg

Bengaluru, May 5: In a major development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sex video scandal involving JD-S MP Prajwal Revann on Saturday arrested his father and JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna following the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea in a victim kidnapping case by the People’s Representative Court in Bengaluru.

H.D. Revanna was taken into custody from the residence of his father and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda in Bengaluru’s Padmanabhanagar locality.

First, he was taken to the SIT office on the premises of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). After preliminary questioning, the former JD-S minister was taken to the Bowring Hospital for a medical check-up.

Sources said he will be produced before the magistrate at the latter's residence later.

Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told mediapersons that he won’t interfere in the matter.

“Action should be initiated as per the law,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said, “We will not interfere in anything related to this matter. Let them get protection from the court under the law."

Shivakumar also said that let the proceedings follow the manner suggested by former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Quoting a Kannada proverb, Kumaraswamy had said that those who commit crime must be punished.

The SIT officers reached the former PM’s residence soon after the court turned down his anticipatory bail plea in a case related to the kidnapping of a woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by his son Prajwal Revanna, the sources said.

Earlier on Saturday, the SIT traced the kidnapped woman to the farmhouse of Rajashekar, the personal assistant (PA) to H.D. Revanna, at Kalenahalli village in Mysuru district.

In the court, Special Public Prosecutor B.N. Jagadish submitted that the case is about saving the life of a poor woman.

Jagadish argued that H.D. Revanna did not turn up before the authorities even after being served three notices.

Senior counsel Muthy D. Naik, appearing for H.D. Revanna, argued that the only allegation against his client is a statement that he had called the victim to his residence.

Barring this, there is nothing to prove the role of H.D. Revanna in this case, he argued, adding that the statement was made by an accused in the case, with whom his client has no connections.

He also claimed that the SIT has deliberately added IPC Section 364A, which attracts life imprisonment and capital punishment, to ensure that his client’s bail plea is rejected.

The other IPC Sections invoked in the case — 363 and 365 — attract imprisonment of less than seven years. Therefore, to prove the innocence of H.D. Revanna, he should be granted bail, Naik submitted.

Meanwhile, the woman, who had gone missing on April 29, was found locked up in the farmhouse when the SIT officers reached there following a tip-off.

Sources said Rajashekar is absconding ever since the SIT traced the missing woman to his farmhouse.

The woman is being brought to Bengaluru where her statement will be recorded.

On Friday, Karnataka Police registered an FIR against H.D. Revanna in connection with the kidnapping of the woman, believed to be one of the victims of the sex video scandal involving his son Prajwal Revanna.

The woman’s son had registered a kidnap case naming H.D. Revanna as the prime accused in the case.

His relative Satish Babu was named as the second accused in the FIR, whom the police arrested from Mysuru district on Friday.

The woman’s son alleged that his mother went missing after the surfacing of a purported sex video in which Prajwal Revanna could be seen sexually assaulting her.

He also alleged that his mother was locked up in an undisclosed location, as he pleaded with the police to initiate legal action against H.D. Revanna and Satish Babu.

Prajwal Revanna, the sitting JD-S MP from Hassan, has reportedly fled from the country.

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Former union minister C M Ibrahim, who was expelled from Janata Dal (Secular) for protesting against party’s alliance with BJP, has stressed on need for a third front not just at the national level, but also in Karnataka.

Addressing a news conference in Bengaluru on Wednesday, he said he’s planning to form a third front in Karnataka along with Lingayat Seer Dingaleshwar Swami.

Ibrahim said that he will tour the state between April 27 and May 4 and that he would meet Dingaleshwar Swami on April 29. “There is a need for the third front in this country. We will try to establish a third front in association with the seer and we hope we will be successful in those efforts,” he said.

Expressing disappointment with the Congress for not doing enough to gain the full confidence of Muslims, Ibrahim said that Congress is concentrating only on certain communities for votes, and ignoring Muslims.

“The Congress is not even caring for Muslims and Dalit votes. In some Muslim areas they did not even hold campaigns seeking votes and trying to convince the communities which never vote in their favour. I fear this may lead to low turnout and Congress may lose its vote base,” he opined.

Mentioning about guarantees on which Congress is strongly relying during this election, Ibrahim said, such things won’t work all the time. “Guarantees will not work anymore. Every election you need to give something new to the voters,” he added.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that Congress is trying to appease minorities for votes, Ibrahim requested both Congress and BJP parties not bring Muslims between them. “I request both parties. Leave us alone. Don’t make us sandwiches for your political sake. We are living with peace and hope even the Prime Minister will understand this,” Ibrahim added.

Launching a broadside against Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Ibrahim said, “Deve Gowda has sold his personality itself. Whatever I have told about JD(S) has come true. I pity, a former Prime Minister should not have come to this stage,” he said.
