Mangalore, Jul 8: With the presentation of his first railway budget by Union railway minister DV Sadananda Gowda, the people of Dakshina Kannada were yet again disappointed with the non-creation of a separate railway division for Mangalore Central railway station, which currently comes under Palghat railway division.

Although the budget announced the introduction of several new trains for Karnataka including a new Bangalore-Mangalore inter-city express, Mangaloreans were let down since the long-time demand of creating a separate railway division for Mangalore was not fulfilled as assured by the railway minister previously.
Another major demand that went unfulfilled in the budget was the construction of two additional platforms at Mangalore Central railway station. Although the proposal for this had been submitted to the Railway Board by Southern Railways three years ago, the Board had not approved this proposal, which is essential as the present capacity caused delays in train operations.
What the railway budget 2014 means to Karnataka:
- Bangalore-Mangalore Express
- Kamakhya-Bengaluru Premium Express
- Bengaluru -Shimoga Express
- Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai HSR (High Speed Rail)
- Shimoga-Sringeri-Mangalore passenger
- Doubling of Mangalore-Ullal-Suratkal track
- Byndoor-Kasaragod Passenger
- Yesvantpur-Tumkur Passenger
- Bengaluru –Ramanagaram MEMU service
- Bengaluru –Neelmangala DEMU service
