Mangaluru, May 1: The connections of the three accused in Karthik Raj murder case with saffron groups including Hindu Hitarakshana Vedike has given has given rise to many suspicions as the Sangh Parivar leaders had made all possible attempts to give communal hue to the issue for past six months.

Karthik Raj’s sister Kavyashree along with saffron activists at protest meet

Karthik Raj (30), an engineering graduate and resident of Sudarshan Nagar in Pajeer village in Mangaluru taluk, was murdered during his jogging routine on October 22, 2016 near Asaigoli under the limits of Konaje police station.

The incident had sparked communal tension in the region after saffron groups held “Muslim elements” responsible for the murder. Though Karthik Raj was not a member of any Hindutva group, the leaders of Sangh Parivar and a section of local media had portrayed him as a “Hindutva activist”.

The BJP’s attempts to politicize this murder case came to an end on April 29 when police arrested the victim’s younger sister Kavyashree, her new boyfriend Gautham and his younger brother Gaurav. Kavyashree, who had married an NRI two years ago, has confessed that she hired Guatham to kill her own brother after he opposed her extra martial affairs.

Ironically, now it has also come to light that all the three accused in this sensational murder case had close connections with saffron elements. Kavyashree had even participated in a protest meet organized by various Hindutva organisations on March 19 in front of the Konaje Police Station in Mangaluru taluk. It is also said that Guatham and Gavrav also were activists of a saffron group.

Friends and well-wishers of Karthik Raj are now demanding a high level investigation to find out whether saffron leaders had tried to protect the real culprits by misleading the police through protests and social media campaigns.

Here are the screenshots of some of the tweets of Karnataka BJP leaders, who had tried to politicize the murder of Karthik Raj.
