Addressing a press meet in the city on Thursday, a day after the cold blooded murder of party activist Ashraf Kalai in Bantwal taluk, SDPI national general secretary Ilyas Mohammed Thumbey said that Dakshina Kannada district administration and police department have completely failed in maintaining law and order in the coastal district.

Calling murder of Ashrafi Kalai a handiwork of Sangh Parivar, Mr Thumbey said that in spite of Congress rule in the state, communal forces have been successful in disrupting peace and unleashing violence in Dakshina Kannada district in general and Mr Rai’s home constituency in particular.

Mr Thumbey said that Karnataka government should impose ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the wake of its leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat’s alleged attempt to incite communal violence in the coastal district.

He demanded the police department to immediately arrest all the culprits in the murder case of Ashraf Kalai and take stringent actions against them. He also urged the state government to release compensation to the aggrieved family of Ashraf Kalai, who is survived by his wife and three children.

SDPI leaders Alfonso Franco, Iqbal Bellare, Munish Bantwal were present among others in press meet.
