Hubballi, Jun 13: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has took a dig at the media by citing his tryst with the fourth estate. He also pointed out at the unethical practices being adopted by today's media, especially TV channels.
Addressing the 60th year anniversary of a Kannada monthly here recently, the chief minister narrated his media-related experiences, all through leaving the audience in splits.
Recalling a report on him with regard to the garlanding of Chamundeshwari during the inauguration of Mysuru Dasara, Siddaramaiah said that he had left his shoes under the dais and approached the statue.
"I wore my shoes only after garlanding the statue. But the media reported that I did so with my shoes on. When I issued a clarification in this regard, they did not carry it, asking me not to take the matter seriously," he added.
Expressing regret over the shameless glorification of superstition, he recalled another report on his encounter with a crow (which sat on his car) that predicted that he may lose power.
"Crow is just a bird. But a section of the media, banking heavily on superstition, said it's a bad omen which may cost me heavily (lose power). They made a mountain out of a molehill then," he said, adding: "When I was in Kerala, a crow pooped on my dhoti, and the headlines screamed that Siddaramaiah will surely lose power this time. I'm still in power, and I'm confident that I will complete my term."
He also took the media to task for highlighting the jinx associated with Chamarajanagar. "Media keeps warning chief ministers of losing power if they visit Chamarajnagar. Me still in power despite visiting Chamarajanagar 11 times as the chief minister has shut the media up," he said. The CM also questioned the visual media for telecasting family issues which are private in nature.
