Aug 9: The flood situation in Belagavi, Bagalkot, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, Raichur and Dharwad in north Karnataka continues to be grim with Maharashtra releasing 4lakh cusecs into the Krishna river on Thursday.
Four people were killed in flood-related incidents, one each in Belagavi, Kalaburagi and two in Dharwad district. A red alert has been sounded in flood-affected Alnavar and Navalgund taluks in Dharwad district as rain continued to batter the region for a sixth consecutive day.
Shilpa Managuli, 10, was washed away while crossing a stream in Nagarmunnolli village, Chikkodi and Channavva Walikar, 45, was killed when a house collapsed in Gamangatti village, Dharwad.
Fakrusab Nadaf, 32, who ran a bakery in Haliyal, Uttara Kannada, was washed away along with his Tata Ace van near Murakatti village, Dharwad. Reddy Chandrappa Donger, 34, a farmer, was washed away in the Bhima river in Yadgir.
More than 10 villages in Naragund taluk, Gadag including Konnur and Lakamapur were flooded. Three taluks near the Bhima in Kalaburagi district, besides taluks in Yadgir and Raichur are facing threat of floods. The Kalaburagi deputy commissioner has ordered evacuation of 29 villages following release from Ujani and Veera reservoirs in Maharashtra.
In Haveri, four bridges were submerged and connectivity between Yalival and Rattihalli shut. More than 60 villages in Ranebennur, Haveri, Hanagal, Hirekerur, and Savanur taluks are in danger of being flooded. More than 500 families have been relocated.
In Bagalkot, an NDRF team rescued a father and son, who were stuck in flood water at Jeeragal village, Mudhol taluk since Wednesday evening.
