Mangaluru, Dec 13: A bullet tanker overturned and fell into a 50-foot gorge on National Highway 75 at Neerakatte near Uppinangady in the early hours of Tuesday.

The tanker belonging to BPCL laden with LPG was travelling from Mangaluru to Bengaluru when the mishap occurred. Driver of the tanker Marappan, a resident of Tamil Nadu, has suffered minor injuries.
The team from the oil companies from Nelyadi rushed to the spot and plugged the leak. Five fire tenders from Puttur, Bantwal and Mangaluru were also brought in immediately. Chief officer of Fire Service Shivashankar and regional officer Thippesway too came to the accident site.
Even the electricity supply in the area was disconnected to ensure safety of the people. The residents near the accident site were alerted and advised not to go near the accident spot and also not to use mobile phone near the spot.
The movement of vehicles on the highway was blocked for more than 10 hours. All the vehicles travelling from Mangaluru to Bengaluru were diverted. The shifting of gas to another tanker was completed by 8 pm, after which the vehicles were allowed to ply on the NH 75. SP Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said that the bullet tanker will be shifted on Wednesday.
