Kasaragod, Sep 12: Two girls were attacked, and wounded, by stray dogs in the Kasaragod district on Friday.

At Kanhangad, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was bitten by a stray when she was waiting with her mother at a bus shelter at Kalyan Road. The girl is being treated at the district hospital at Kanhangad. A man who tried to come to the girl’s rescue was also attacked.
Though the local bodies have come out with a Rs.1.31-crore project to sterilise stray dogs, the threat from them refuses to abate. Under the project, launched in a phased manner from August, the local bodies had managed to sterilise 82,000 dogs, district panchayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi said.
Lack of shelter rooms to house the injected animals was hampering the sterilisation drive, she added.
