Udupi, Sept 24: Seven students from Manipal Institute of Technology have been arrested by the Manipal police for alleged consumption of cannabis.

The police identified the students as Rishiveer, 20; Sai Charan, 20; Atulya Singh, 18; Preetam Gupta, 19; G. Prateek, 20; B. Satwik, 19; and Deepak Bhargav Rao.
They were arrested as part of a drive by the police against consumption and sale of cannabis. The drive was conducted by a team at Saralebettu between 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on September 19.
The police said students were reportedly found in drowsy states on the road in Saralebettu, near Manipal. They were taken to the Department of Forensics at Kasturba Medical College for an examination, where it was confirmed that they had consumed cannabis.
All the students were booked under Section 27(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
