Udupi, Apr 19: Janata Dal (Secular) leader Deviprasad Shetty, who recently quit as the Udupi district president of the party, has not formally joined Congress party.

The development comes amidst ongoing preparation by political parties across Karnataka for impending Gram Panchayat elections.
On Sunday in a simple programme held at Congress office in Kaup near here Mr Shetty was inducted into the party in the presence of Udupi district-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and other leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sorake said that the induction of Mr Shetty has further strengthened the Congress party in Udupi district. Mr Shetty said that many of his supporters are expected to quit JD(S) and join Congress party soon.
While resigning from the JD(S) post, Mr Shetty had revealed that the number of active members in the party had been declining in Udupi with every passing day.
