Uppinangady, May 13: In a hit-and-run case, two scooter-borne youth were crushed to death by a speeding truck near Kootelu Bridge in Uppinangady on Monday.
The victims have been identified as Suhail (22), son of Muhammed from Valalu, and Altaf (21), son of Muhammed from Valalu. Both of them were close friends.
Suhail is survived by his parents, a brother, and five sisters. Altaf is survived by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.
It is learnt that Althaf, who worked as salesman in a shop at Bangalore had recently visited his home.
The incident occurred when the duo were travelling towards Uppinagady from Valalu on their scooter. The truck which was coming from the direction of Uppinangady (Bangalore highway) sped away towards Mangalore after killing the youth on spot.
Angry residents, who witnessed the tragedy resorted to protest and tried to block the road demanding the police to immediately detect the killer truck and arrest the driver. The traffic was disrupted for some time on Mangalore-Bangalore highway.
