Shivamogga, Mar 19: UT Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, has ordered a probe into the mysterious death of Mohammed Hussein, District AYUSH (Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) Officer.

The members of Shivamogga District Government Employees Association had staged a protest alleging that pressure exerted by the senior officers of AYUSH and Karnataka Ayurveda and Unani Practitioners Board on Mr. Hussein to initiate further legal action over the raid resulted in his death.
Rajesh Suragihalli, District Health Officer, had briefed Mr. Khader on the incident over the telephone. Mr. Khader has directed a probe into Mr. Hussein's death. A committee comprising three senior officers of Ministry of AYUSH has been formed to probe into the incident.
Shahida, wife of Mr. Hussein, has lodged a complaint with the Newtown police on Thursday alleging that the pressure exerted by Mr. Shettigar and Pushpa, another officer in the department, was responsible for the death of her husband.
The police are investigating the complaint now.
Meanwhile, in a press statement, Mr. Shettigar has said that he had not exerted any pressure on Mr. Hussein. The raid was conducted on a clinic run by an ayurveda practitioner who was involved in cross practise.
As per the existing rules, it is the District Ayush Officer who has to initiate further legal steps after the raid is conducted by the Board owing to which Mr. Hussein had gone to the police station, he said.
