Bengaluru, May 8: The Kengeri police on Sunday afternoon recovered a human skeleton from a cupboard which was cemented at a house at Gandhinagar in Kengeri Satellite Town.
Based on the clothes recovered from the spot, the police suspect the skelton could be that of an elderly woman. The police suspect the woman was murdered about three months ago and the assailants may have dumped the body inside the cupboard.
“Anil, the owner of the house, had rented it to a family from Shivamogga. Sanjay, an engineering student, his mother Shashikala and grandmother Shanthakumari were staying in the house.?The trio have been missing since February 2,” Deputy Commissioner of Police?(West) M N?Anucheth said.
The body was highly decomposed and what remained was the skeleton with some hair. The assailants had also dumped mud in the cupboard.?There were blood-stained clothes of a woman at the spot. The victim could either be Shashikala or Shanthakumari. Sanjay may be involved in the murder, police said.
Sanjay, a student of a private college, was working with a real estate firm in Indiranagar. He met Anil on February 2 and claimed that his relative had met with an accident in Shivamogga.
He sought Rs 50,000 from Anil, saying it was needed for the treatment of the relative. Anil obliged and transferred the money to Sanjay’s bank account. Anil told the police he never saw the trio after February 2. He presumed they could be in Shivamogga for the treatment of their relative.
On Sunday, he decided to get the house cleaned as it was locked for three months and rent it to someone else. Anil opened the door with a duplicate key and entered inside around 10 am. One of the rooms was locked. He peeped through the window and found materials scattered. He grew suspicious on seeing the cupboard cemented and painted red.
“I thought something was wrong as there was a foul smell. Immediately, I called the police,”?Anil said. The police reached there, broke open the cupboard and recovered the skeleton.?
