World Kannada Cultural Convention in Australia on May 13, 14

Mangaluru, May 9: Australia based United Kannada Sangha in collaboration with Manjunath Education Trust will be organizing 13th World Kannada Cultural Convention on May 13 and 14 in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Tuesday, Manjunath Sagar, founder president of Vishwa Kannada Samskriti Sammelana Samiti, said that the convention would showcase the prosperity and glory of Kannada language and culture.

Separate sessions for poetry, comedy, media matters etc will be held in the convention. A special session is dedicated to NRI Kannadigas. Also bharatanatyam, folk art, dance, recital, yakshagana will be enacted in splendour. The Kannadigas will take great pride in presenting and staging the folk art and culture of their mother land, he said.

‘Global Man 2016’ Award will be presented to those who have made significant contributions in the field of Kannada literature, social service and medicine as part of World Kannada cultural convention. ‘World Kannada Dance Talent Award 2016’ will also be conferred during the Convention.

Dr Hamsalekha will preside over the convention. Notable personalities such as Naveen D Padil, Mandya Ramesh and Mahadev Sathigere Dharwad will grace the occasion among others.

The objective of the United Kannada Sangha, Australia is to unite all Kannadigas from around Australia and to help preserve the culture and language among the people and the place.

The previous Kannada overseas conventions were held in Abu Dhabi in 2004 and also in 2012, Singapore in 2005 and 2010, Bahrain in 2006 and 2011, Kuwait in 2007, Qatar in 2008, Dubai in 2009, Kenya in 2013, Canada in 2014 and Sharjah in 2015.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
