Mangaluru, Mar 23: Department of Forensic Medicine and Department of Anatomy, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore jointly organised an international CME programme on Forensic Anthropology titled ‘The Skeleton Speaks’ at the college indoor auditorium at Yenepoya University, Deralakatte on Monday.

Registrar of Yenepoya University Dr Raghuveer C V announced that the Department of Forensic Medicine would launch a post-graduate diploma course in Forensic Anthropology for a duration of one year, following the CME programme on Monday. The first module is scheduled from Monday, which will also cover air crash disaster management on March 24 and 25, he said, adding that so far, a total of 12 students had registered for the course.
Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF) president Luis Fondebrider and Ivana Wolff from Argentina, South America are the main resource persons for the PG diploma course in Forensic Anthropology. Other resource persons for the course include Anthropology professor at Allahabad University Dr Ruma Purkait, head of Department of Criminology, Roshni Nilaya (Mangaluru) Dr B Ashoka and head of Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluru, Dr Vina Vaswani, he informed.
He said that the role of forensic anthropology was central especially in investigating cases of mass violence, exhuming complex mass graves, analyzing large number of commingale remains and leading the identification process, integrating the results of forensic pathologist, odontologist and genetics among others, he informed.
Luis Fondebrider, Ivana Wolff and Dr Vina Vaswani were present in the press conference.
