Mangalore, Feb 22: The members of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Youth Congress staged a dharna in front of Deputy Commissioner's office here on Saturday in protest of the Tamil Nadu government's decision of releasing the seven convicts involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Youth Congress leader Mithun Rai said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's decision was “not just disgusting, but an insult to the memory of the former Prime Minister”.
It was a tragedy that Ms Jayalalithaa was using the issue for political gains in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, he said, and added that such an “insensitive behaviour” by a Chief Minister was unthinkable.
Later, the protestors also burnt the effigy of Ms Jayalalithaa.
