Koppal, May 5: Police have arrested a dozen persons after a clash between a group of Dalits and upper caste Hindus in Mainahalli village in Koppal district.
According to an FIR based on a complaint by Basavaraj, a group of so called upper caste Hindus allegedly assaulted Dalits and also misbehaved with women who tried to prevent the clash.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night. According to Mr. Basavaraj, a wordy duel ensued between an upper caste Hindu youth and a Dalit youth during the annual fair in the village.
Village elders intervened and prevented the situation from getting out of control. Later, a group of youths assaulted a few Dalits and verbally abused them, he said.
The Alwandi Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
