The Karnataka Congress has shortlisted two to three candidates each for constituencies where the party got defeated in the 2013 Assembly elections. A majority of the incumbent Congress members of the Assembly are expected to get ticket, sources in the party said.

The party has received a whopping 1,570 applications for the 224 constituencies in the State. The party’s election committee members on Wednesday held a brainstorming session to shortlist the prospective candidates.
KPCC Campaign Committee chairman D.K. Shivakumar told reporters before the meeting that list of shortlisted names would be sent to the AICC Central Committee for final selection. The AICC is expected to announce the final list by the month-end.
Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said there was no discussion on denying ticket to any incumbent MLA. However, three names for each constituency had been shortlisted. He said his daughter Sowmya Reddy was one of the five ticket aspirants from the Jayanagar constituency in Bengaluru.
