ADGP files complaint against Auradkar under SC/ST Act; agitating KSRP personnel kept busy

Bangalore, May 30: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) P Ravindranath, accused of clicking pictures of a woman at a coffee shop, lodged a complaint against City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar and two other officers on Thursday.

He also sought action against them under the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act 1989.

In his complaint to the Cubbon Park police, Ravindranath, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste, said the three officers had committed an offence under the said Act by implicating him in a false case. The two others named in the complaint are DCP?(Central) B R Ravikanthe Gowda and Sub-Inspector M S Ravi of the High Grounds police station.

Ravindranath has, in the complaint, referred to how he was “ill-treated” at the High Grounds police station soon after the alleged incident on Monday.

The complaint read, “Auradkar had practised untouchability when I asked him to allow me to sit in his car on Tuesday, when I had been to his office. He asked me not to touch him.”

DG and IGP L R Pachau refused to comment on the ADGP 's complaint.

Meanwhile, Home Minister K J George said the State government has already ordered a?CID inquiry into the coffee shop incident.

“If Ravindranath has any grievances, he can file a complaint with the CID.”

While there were reports that in the wake of the controversy, the government was planning to transfer Auradkar, George said there was no such idea. However, sources said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will hold a high-level meeting on Friday on replacing Auradkar. ADGP (Law and Order) M N Reddi 's name is making the rounds for the top post.

At a meeting chaired by Siddaramaiah at his home office on Thursday evening, the entire issue was reportedly discussed at length.

The protest by KSRP?personnel in support of Ravindranath was also discussed. Responding to the protest, George said police should be disciplined and the protest was uncalled for.

When his comment was sought on two top IPS officers fighting in public and thus embarrassing the government, George evaded the query by saying that the government was not involved.

Protesting KSRP personnel kept busy

After a day of intense protest by the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) personnel near Koramangala parade ground on Wednesday night, around 1,200 police personnel of KSRP were deployed for various duties on Thursday to prevent them from protesting again.

A senior police official said the decision was taken to prevent any kind of untoward incident and to keep the KSRP personnel busy.

On Wednesday night, they took to streets and blocked traffic for more than eight hours to express their support to ADGP Ravindranath, who has been accused of taking pictures of a woman on his cellphone at a coffee shop on Monday. The protest had caused inconvenience to the public.

The official said the KSRP?men were ordered to don uniform and attend duty without fail. Anyone failing to obey the orders will be dealt with strictly, they were told. Around 300 police personnel were deployed at the KSRP parade ground to monitor the law and order situation. Also three DCPs were posted at the spot to supervise the situation.

Meanwhile, several Dalit organisations protested at Town Hall and Mysore Bank Circle, demanding justice for Ravindranath. The protestors led by former legislator D S Veeraiah shouted slogans against the government alleging conspiracy and demanded that the whole incident should be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation for a detailed probe.

Terming this incident unfortunate, Home Minister K J George warned strict action against the police personnel indulging in protest.

The police, who are supposed to maintain law and order, indulged in violence and caused inconvenience to the public. Such incidents would be dealt with seriously,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, Ravindranath 's daughter Kushala said: “My father does not enter even my room without my permission. A person like him cannot click such photos. He is a strict disciplinarian. The investigation will reveal the is,” she said.

Karwar, May 5: What commenced as a mere exchange of words between spouses swiftly transmuted into a calamitous ordeal, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of their innocent offspring. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the serene confines of Halamaddy village in the picturesque expanse of Dandeli, nestled within the idyllic expanse of Uttara Kannada district.

In the throes of a fervent dispute with her spouse, the aggrieved wife, succumbing to an overwhelming surge of emotions, callously propelled their tender six-year-old progeny into the somber depths of a nearby canal, thereafter alerting the local populace to her grievous act.

Promptly apprised of the distressing occurrence by concerned bystanders, the authorities were swiftly summoned to the scene to confront the harrowing aftermath.

Responding to the distress call, the diligent officers of Dandeli rural police swiftly converged upon the site where the innocent child had been cast into the unforgiving waters of the canal, subsequently effecting the retrieval of the child's lifeless form.

Regrettably, it was discerned that a portion of the child's remains had been tragically claimed by the lurking jaws of a predatory crocodile.

Bengaluru: JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy has claimed that 25,000 pen drives with videos of women being sexually abused allegedly by his nephew, Lok Sabha election candidate Prajwal Revanna, were distributed before polls, and accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar of a conspiracy.

The former chief minister also sought to discredit the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Congress government on April 28 to probe the charges against Prajwal of sexually abusing several women after videos allegedly involving him started making the rounds on social media.

"It is not a Special Investigation Team but 'Siddaramaiah Investigation Team' and 'Shivakumar Investigation Team'," the JD(S) second-in-command, who is the son of party supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, said.

MLA H D Revanna and his son and Hassan MP Prajwal have been booked for allegedly molesting their cook. In another case, Revanna has been booked and arrested for allegedly kidnapping a woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by Prajwal. A case of rape has also been registered against Prajwal.

Addressing a press conference here, Kumaraswamy said the pen drives were circulated by police officers who were "threatened to do it".

“It (pen drive carrying videos) was released in Bengaluru Rural constituency (where the Congress candidate in the Lok Sabha elections is D K Suresh, who is the brother of Shivakumar). This was an April 21 development. On April 22, Poornachandra, our polling agent, gave a complaint to the District Deputy Commissioner, who is the Returning Officer,” the JD(S) leader said.

“Poornachandra received a message at 8 pm on April 21 asking people to 'follow a WhatsApp channel to see Prajwal Revanna’s sleaze video'. There was a message on this WhatsApp channel, 'Countdown for the release of Prajwal’s sleaze videos'," Kumaraswamy further said.

According to Kumaraswamy, one Naveen Gowda had sent the message about the "countdown".

In his complaint to the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Hassan district, Poornachandra has named five people including Naveen Gowda, Karthik Gowda (Revanna’s driver), Chethan and Puttaraju alias Putty, he said.

It has been more than a fortnight since the complaint made on April 21 but no action has been taken against these five people, Kumaraswamy said and demanded that they should first be arrested for "mortgaging the modesty" of women in the videos.

Kumaraswamy alleged that 25,000 pen drives were distributed in the entire state, and cited a report in a regional daily to support his claim.

“My question here is why no action was taken. If someone posts something on social media, immediately houses are searched and the person is made to sit in the police station. Why no action was taken against these five people despite a complaint?” he asked.

"Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had confidently said that all the three JD(S) candidates in the Lok Sabha elections will be defeated," Kumaraswamy said, adding, "It raises doubts about the involvement of many people."

On April 25, Karnataka State Commission for Women Chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to Siddaramaiah demanding an SIT probe into the tapes where Prajwal is allegedly seen sexually abusing several women. The same night, the CM gave his nod and ordered the formation of a SIT, Kumaraswamy said.

“In that letter, Nagalakshmi Chowdhary did not mention the name of Prajwal or Revanna but the chief minister called it ‘Prajwal Revanna’s explicit videos’ in his post on X when he announced the formation of SIT. This shows how the conspiracy was hatched,” the JD(S) leader claimed.

He also alleged that the first complaint "framing" his brother H D Revanna and nephew Prajwal was typed on a computer in Bengaluru and was sent to Holenarasipura, which is represented in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly by Revanna, on April 28.

“It’s not a Special Investigation Team but there are two teams within it – one is ‘Siddaramaiah Investigation Team’ and another one is ‘Shivakumar Investigation Team’,” he charged.

He said the ‘convenor’ of the 'pen drive story', Karthik Gowda should be traced first and brought before the people.

“Going through the conspiracies, one can doubt the intention behind the investigation because more than protecting the women victims, you are limiting the scope of the probe only to defame people,” Kumaraswamy further alleged.

He underlined that he was not trying to protect anyone. “I have said that in this case I will not protect anyone doing wrong. Stringent punishment should be given to the person involved in this crime as per the law of land."

Bengaluru: All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba on Monday accused the BJP and JD(S) of being silent over the alleged sex scandal involving Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna and said the horrifying case of violence against women has shocked the nation.

"More than 3000 videos with hundreds of women being sexually harassed, violated and even brutalised by MP Prajwal Revanna over the past few years have shaken the conscience of Kannadigas and Indians alike," she told at a press conference here.

Prajwal (33) is grandson of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. JD(S) joined the NDA in September last year. He was the NDA candidate in Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went for polls on April 26.

According to police sources, he left the country after voting was over.

The Congress government in Karnataka on Sunday constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the alleged sex scandal.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal had started making the rounds in Hassan in recent days.

Lamba said the horrifying case of sexual violence against hundreds of women has shocked the nation.

"These acts of sexual brutality against hapless women has revealed the depravity of MP Prajwal Revanna, but the silence and sheer apathy of the BJP and JDS in this horrendous case is absolutely shameful," she said.

She alleged that in these videos, some recorded against the consent of the victim, women are seen pleading to be spared but the MP continues to brutalise and sexually violate them. Party 'karyakartas', panchayat members, elderly women, women who came asking for help to him and even maids have not been spared.

"The horrible fact is, that the acts of this sexual predator MP Prajwal Revanna was endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he campaigned in Old Mysuru Region on April 14th, 2024," she alleged.

"....the BJP JDS are still silent which shows you their true Anti Woman DNA!! Will the BJP or JDS answer?".
