Bangalore, May 26: So called anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who had officially joined hands with political parties during the recently concluded general election, is back with a new drama.
Hazare, who was in the city on Sunday, to promote his new “non-political social movement” called Asli Azadi Abhiyan (true freedom movement) which is expected to be launched in Mumbai on August 9, coinciding with the anniversary of the Quit India movement, lashed out at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for latters move towards the defamation case filed against him by the BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.
The Gandhian plans to lead a march from Kashmir to Kanyakumari later this year to take the campaign to the people. Addressing the first consultative meeting of the campaign here on Sunday, Mr. Hazare said it would seek to “reawaken” the people to bring about true democracy.
Flanked by Justice Santosh Hegde, waterman of India Rajendra Singh, H S Doreswamy, Salem Nanjundaiah Subba Rao, Akhil Gogoi from Assam and social activists from different parts of the country, Hazare vowed that his crusade would not stop till the benefits of independence reached the hinterlands and the development models were village-centric.
Hazare, who had officially backed government 's Lokpal Act to express his opposition to Kejriwal 's movement for Jan Lokpal Bill, now admitted that Lokpal Act had many shortcomings.
Criticising the “utopia of development” of contemporary national discourse, Hazare said such development would only lead us to “ vinaash [destruction]”. Further, he said, the campaign would work towards ensuring effective implementation of the Lokpal as well as strive to bring in strong Lokayuktas for States.
The campaign would also fight for decentralization of power and seek to usher in electoral reforms, he added.
"Hame azadi toh mili 1947 mein, par nakli azadi mili (We got Independence in 1947, but it was a false freedom)," Hazare said, adding both the ruling and opposition parties exploited the people, grabbed their lands, indulged in corruption, violence and loot.
