Anniversary note from Coastal Digest Chairman

Asif Amaco
January 1, 2011

A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step, or so said Lao Tzu, the sixth century philosopher from China. It was on this day last year that Coastaldigest.com took that little step towards providing a vibrant and inclusive news portal, which reflected Mangalore in all its hues.

As we enter the second year with the turn of the calendar I would like to acknowledge the contributions of each and every member of the CD team for being part of this lovely caravan.
At the threshhold of the second year let me also reiterate our commitment towards making CD a voice for all the Mangaloreans, both resident and non-resident. We will remain a truly plural, multi-ethinic and democratic media outlet, committed to value-based journalism and ethos of social justice.

At the outset, I would like to thank the support and encouragement the CD received during the last 12 months from our esteemed readers and well-wishers, who are spread all over the globe. The bouquets and the brick-bats we got from our readers have helped us to remain on the right track in pursuit of our mission.

First thanks goes to Ifthikar Ahmed, Riyadh for his efforts in bringing up Coastaldigest in best possible ways. He has spent lot of time in shaping up the website and his back end administrative support in running this site has been invaluable.

I would also like to thank Kamaruddin for his efforts in the initial stages in design, launch and as editor-in-chief, though his tenure lasted only a couple of weeks after launch.
A big thank-you goes out to the entire Managlore team, who have put in invaluable efforts in realising my long-cherished dream. A word of appreciation is due for our staff who worked in the absence of chief editor for almost a year.

I would also like to place on record the contribution of our editorial team including our chief reporter Naeem Siddiq, Abrar Ahmed Khan, Safiya, photojournalists Ahmed Anwar and Ramesh Pandith. I am also grateful to those editorial staff who have quit CD in pursuit of greener pastures.

Our journey has also been made memorable by our dedicated and learned contributors including Shodhan prasad, Iqbal Manna, Farooq Kuwait, Ferns Kuwait, Edmond Fernandes, Abdulla Madumoole, Namitha Varma, Arif Jokatte, Mohammed Iqbal Jubail, Imran Karkala, Riyaz Kulai and also our distinguished advisors Father Richard Rego, Thufail Muhammad, Dinesh Kini, Rishikesh Bahadur Desai, Sharfuddin BS, Iqbal Banakal and Hassan Yusuf.
K Mohammed Sharief has managed Mangalore office efficiently and he along with his non-editorial staff also deserve a thank-you for their role.

I am also grateful to all sponsors, community leaders who supported CD throughout the year and would like to unveil the CD team for the new year. Editor-in-chief Mohammed Ashraf, Sub editor - Abrar Ahmed Khan, and Administrative Manager - Mohammed Sharief.

The CD proposes to take a foray into print media with the new year and I am pleased to announce that our new venture Coastal Mirror monthly news magazine will be launched in February. I expect your full support to the new endeavour. Wish you all a happy new year.
