Mangaluru, Feb 2: The Karnataka state committee of the Social Democratic Party of India has nominated Ataullah Jokatte as the new president of its Dakshina Kannada district unit.

The announcement was made during the party’s district committee meet here recently. SDPI state president Abdul Hannan, general secretary Abdul Lateheef and district committee office bearers and members were present in the meeting.
Mr Jokatte, who was serving as the district general secretary of the party replaced Haneef Khan Kodaje, who offered to vacate the president’s post over personal reasons. Meanwhile, Iqbal Bellare was elevated to district general secretary’s post.
Deliberations about SDPI plans for upcoming assembly polls in the district were held in the meeting. A release issued here stated that a list of potential candidates was prepared and forwarded to the state committee.
The meeting also resolved to intensify campaign against Centre’s controversial triple talaq bill by distributing pamphlets and staging protest meets, the release said.
