The travelling time will be reduced because the train will travel 50 km less and it will not require engine reversal at Mysore, said Anil Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Bangalore.
At present, Bangalore-Mangalore train travel duration is 12 hours.
A 110-km stretch of the 166-km Bangalore–Hassan line needs to be doubled.
The Rs. 867-crore Bangalore–Mysore track-doubling project is expected to be completed within the current financial year.
Work on 66-km stretch, of the 100-km line, had been completed, Mr. Agarwal said. Once the track-doubling was completed, up to 80 trains could operate on the line, he said, and added that that at present, 24 trains operate on it.
