Mangaluru, Aug 19: Pointing out that the Bearys have made remarkable achievements in the education sector in recent years, Revenue Minister R V Deshpande called upon the community to concentrate on the health sector too.
He was speaking at the scholarship and sewing machine distribution programme organized by the Dubai-based Bearys Cultural Forum at the Town Hall in Mangaluru today.
Around 500 merit students from different parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts were given scholarships at the programme. As many as 55 women were given the sewing machines on the same occasion.
Mr Deshpande called upon the students to think and aim high and work hard throughout their lives. “You are the biggest asset of the country and the world. You are capable of changing the world,” he said.
Urban Development and Housing Minister U T Khader said that the recipients of the help should make up their mind to return the same back to society in future.
Janata Dal-Secular chief general secretary and MLC B M Farookh inaugurated the event. Dr B K Yusuf, president of BCF presided over the function.
BCF patron B M Mumtaz Ali welcomed the gathering. Ibrahim Musliyar recited the Kiraath. The programme was compered by chief secretaries of BCF Dr Kaup Mohammed and Rafiq Master.
Mangaluru city police chief T R Suresh, MLCs Ivan D'Souza and K Harish Kumar, former MLA Moideen Bava, former MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Mangaluru University Registrar Dr M M Khan, Vishwas Bawa Builders’ MD Abdul Rauf Puttige, Beary Sahitya Academy president Mohammed Karambar were present among others.
