Chikkamagaluru, Feb 23: Chaitrashree BS, the president of Chikkamagaluru Zilla Panchayat, has been expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party over her disobedience.
In a letter, BJP state unit general secretary N Ravikumar said that Chaitrashree has been expelled from primary membership of the party for a period of six years.
Chaitrashree was elected president of Zilla Panchayat in May 2016. As per an internal agreement, Chaitrashree was supposed to tender her resignation to her post after completion of 20 months in the post. However, she showed disobedience to the instructions of the senior leaders of the party. This gesture of hers compelled the party to expel her, a BJP member said.
"As per the Panchayat Raj regulations, there is no scope for moving a no-confidence motion till the completion of the tenure of 30 months. Senior leaders and core committee members of the party would take a decision to move no-confidence motion against Chaitrashree," he said.
The Chikkamagaluru Zilla Panchayat has 19 members from the BJP, 12 from the Congress and two from the JD(S).
