Shivamogga, Sept 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged victorious in the urban local body (ULB) polls to 35 wards of Shivamogga City Corporation (SCC) by winning 20 seats.
Of the 35 seats, BJP won 20 seats, Congress won eight and JD(S) one. Independents claimed five seats, SDPI -one.
The election officer withheld the result of the ward number 15 which witnessed a close fight between Congress and JD(S). The recounting of votes for this ward is in progress.
In ward number 15, JD(S) candidate Sathyanarayana Raju was declared the winner by draw of lots.
In previous polls (2013), the Congress had 12 members, the BJP 11, JD(S) 5, Karnataka Janata Paksha 4, SDPI 1, and there were 2 Independents.
