Charges framed against Saif Ali Khan and others

Mumbai, Mar 14: The Metropolitan magistrate court on Thursday framed charges against actor Saif Ali Khan and his two friends, Bilal Amrohi and Shakeel Ladakh after the three had allegedly got into a brawl with an NRI businessman in 2012. The court after framing charges, read out the same to the three, thereby asking the three if they accept the charges, but the three pleaded non-guilty. Hence the court posted the matter for trial to April 30.

Public prosecutor, advocate Wajid Shaikh, while speaking to said, "Today the court has framed charges against all the three accused under sections 325 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing grevious hurt with a common intention, respectively. The court would now initiate with the trial in the case from April 30 onwards."

According to the prosecution's case, on February 22, 2012, when an NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma had been to a five star restaurant, Khan and his friends had allegedly assaulted him, thereby injuring Sharma's nose.

Advocate Shaikh further added, "The police has attached a list of 29 witnesses, which also includes Khan's guest and Sharma's family."

Sharma in his complaint had alleged that he had asked the manager of the hotel to ask Khan and his group to keep their volume under check. Accordingly when the manager approached Khan, he in anger walked up to Sharma and punched him on the nose. Sharma also claimed that Khan had also manhandled his father-in-law.

Popular Bhojpuri actor Amrita Pandey was found dead in her apartment in Bihar's Bhagalpur last week on April 27, the police said. The cops suspect the actor, 27, died by suicide but the matter is under investigation. 

The police said she posted a cryptic WhatsApp status before her death, which read, "Do naav me savaar thi uski zindagi, humne apni naav duba ke uska safar aasaan kar diya" (His/her life was sailing on two boats, we made the journey easy by sinking one). The cops have not recovered any suicide note. She is survived by her husband.

Amrita's family said she worried about her career as she was not getting enough work and was suffering from depression. The family said she was undergoing treatment for depression. 

The actor lived in Mumbai with her husband, Chandramani Jhangad, an animation engineer. She went to Bhagalpur to attend her sister's wedding on April 18. Her husband returned home after the wedding but Amrita chose to stay back. 

The actor has been alongside Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav in 'Deewanapan'. She also acted in Hindi movies, TV shows and web series. She is also known for her role in the web series 'Parishodh'.

City Superintendent of Police, Shri Raj, said we will conduct a high-level investigation into this case. A team has been formed, the family members are being interrogated and further action is underway in the case.
