Mangaluru, Aug 2: A three-member committee has been formed by the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to probe into the unnatural death of Kavya Poojary.

According to Kripa Amar Alva, chairman of the Commission, the newly formed committee would look into the circumstances leading to the death of Kavya. It will also study whether or not measures were adopted as per the child protection policy in the school and the hostel.
She said that the commission took the decision following calls to her and other members seeking action. The committee comprises commission members Anand Lobo, Vanitha T. and Roopa Nayak. They will shortly visit Moodbidri, and also meet Kavya’s parents, classmates, roommates, teachers, and school management authorities. They will also speak to officials from the child welfare committee, Women and Child Development Department, child helpline, and the police before submitting a report to the commission.
Meanwhile, the police, who have registered a case of unnatural death, said that the post-mortem report has been received. They are waiting for Forensic Science Laboratory report. They have collected the footages of CCTVs on the school campus.
They are now collecting statements from classmates, hostel warden and school management. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mangaluru North) is the investigation officer.
