Mangalore, Jul 7: The CID investigation team had begun their investigation into the murder of Bajrang Dal activist Rajesh Poojary who was murdered on March 21 in Bantwal taluk.
A team of five police officers led by CID DySP Vishwanath arrived in Mangalore on Friday and began recording the statements of several persons including Bantwal town police officials as well as DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla.
Bowing to the pressure yielded by local citizens and family members of the three accused arrested in connection with the murder case, the case had been handed over to the CID for conducting a re-investigation. Earlier, several protestors led by DYFI had demonstrated in front of district in-charge minister's residence protesting against the arrest of three innocent youth in the case.
Falsified information in chargesheet
Muneer Katipalla has alleged that the police have recorded falsified information in the chargesheet of the three youth Irshad, Imran and Hussain who were wrongly arrested for the murder of the Bajrang Dal activist.
The investigating police officer had stated that revenge in Iqbal murder case had been the motive for the three youth to kill Rajesh Poojary. However, there are several contradictory statements recorded in the chargesheet of the murder case, leading to the belief that there was pressure from various quarters to make arrests in the case, he said.
The murder of Iqbal had taken place five years ago, when the accused were in the age group of 15-18 years and had no connection with Iqbal. Hence, the assumption that the motive was revenge for the murder was baseless, he claimed.
He also held that if the three accused were guilty of murder, they would have fled from the village rather than going about in their routine.
He pointed that without actually having recorded the statement of accused Irshad's brother Asif in the murder case, a falsified account of his statement has been submitted to the court along with the chargesheet.
