Mangalore, October 2: Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs and Civil Aviation Vayalar Ravi on Sunday reassured 'Coastaldigst.com' to seriously consider the long-pending demand of starting a direct flight service from Mangalore airport to major cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A delegation of the city based news portal led by its Editor-in-Chief Mohammed Ashraf met Mr Ravi, who was on a one-day Mangalore visit, as part of its efforts towards securing a concrete assurance from the Union Government and the Air India authorities in this matter.

Promising to do his best to fulfill the dream of Mangalorean populace staying in the Kingdom, the minister said that he would talk to concerned authorities and also put the issue in front of the All India Congress Committee.

The minister pointed out that one of the major reasons for the delay in establishing direct air link between this coastal city and Kingdom is the shortage of flights.

Accepting a feasible study report on Mangalore population scattered across the Kingdom submitted by Mr Ashraf, the minister asked the delegation to keep following up the issue.

The report gives a clear outline of the Mangalorean populace in Saudi Arabia and the percentage of those Mangaloreans who often visit the Kingdom on commercial purpose.

Mohammed Ashfaq, activists Cheibava and T K Rajan were also part of the delegation.
