Mangalore, Aug 28: Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda's son Karthik Gowda's relationship with Kannada starlet Mythriya became a full blown scandal and kicked up a storm in Karnataka with latter giving more details of secret love-marriage story.

The model-turned-actress on Thursday reiterated that Karthik had secretly married her and they both had physical relationship. She said that she has known Karthik since May this year and her relationship with him was known to his family members as well. She claimed to have spoken to Karthik's mother even.

According to her, Karthik married her when she refused pre-marital sexual relationship. “When I refused his (Karthik's) advances saying I am not interested in pre-marital sexual relationship, he married me at his Mangalore house immediately in June in the presence of his driver. He tied a rudimentary mangala sutra consisting of a turmeric,” the actress told the police.

Later speaking to media persons she pleaded Gowda's family to accept her as his daughter-in-law, maintaining that they were aware of the marriage but were not willing to accept her.

"My marriage has happened. I can't take anybody else as my husband," the woman said while rejecting suggestions that she was trying to blackmail the Gowda family.

She admitted that she had joined the Congress two-and-a- half or three years ago, but said her political affiliation had nothing to do with her complaint. She said she respects Gowda as a politician.

Asked if she had been approached by Gowda's family, she said "nobody has contacted me" directly. She also claimed she had told Gowda's wife to accept her and she would be a "good daughter-in-law".

On allegations that her photo with Karthik may be morphed, she said, "These are not morphed photos, because they were not taken by me. These were actually taken by his friends....which he sent me…”

Mythriya said that she respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would seek justice from him.

The issue also reached the Karnataka Women's Commission, whose chairperson Manjula Manasa said the woman's sister had approached it. "I will talk to the woman and her family. An FIR has been registered. We will write to police department."

Refusing to be drawn into the issue, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, "law will take its own course." Home Minister K J George said Government would in no way interfere in the case, adding, "The investigating officer will be given a free hand."

On allegations that Congress is behind the incident, he said, "No one is behind it. A complaint has been registered and based on it investigation officer will investigate. We will not interfere in any way. I don't know who is behind it."

Meanwhile, Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi said that the police would act as per law. "Yes we will summon him and if found guilty, will arrest him," he said. A case was booked last night against Karthik under Sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code on the basis of the complaint filed by the woman.

Amidst these development, BJP president Amit Shah Thursday asked the party's Karnataka unit to send a report after consulting Gowda, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen to clear the air at the earliest.

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A group of Congress workers gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, but the reception quickly turned into a display of support for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Venugopal arrived in the city to participate in the centenary commemoration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Narayana Guru. The event, organised by the Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, in association with the Mangalore University Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, is being held on the university’s Konaje campus.

KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and several party workers had assembled at the airport to receive Venugopal. However, the moment he stepped out, workers began raising slogans backing Shivakumar.

The university programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This show of support comes just a day after Siddaramaiah remarked that Shivakumar would lead the government “when the high command decides.” The chief minister made the comment after a breakfast meeting at Shivakumar’s residence—another public display of camaraderie between the two leaders amid ongoing attempts by the party high command to downplay their leadership rivalry.
