April 30, 2016

Riyadh, Apr 30: A return drive from Makkah after performing Umrah became the last journey for four members of an Indian family who met with an accident, 50 km from the holy city.

Umrah

Three of them died on the spot, while one of them lost the battle for life while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Bashir Ahmad Mir, 40, a native of Banpora Road, Srinagar, Kashmir, was returning with his family members from Makkah after performing Umrah. Their vehicle overturned after he lost control on the Makkah-Madinah Expressway on Thursday afternoon.

Bashir, his father Mohammed Siddique Mir, and daughter Maryam died at the scene, whereas his wife died later in the night.

His mother and another child, who sustained multiple injuries, are undergoing treatment in a Jeddah hospital and are reported to be in critical condition.

Bashir was working as a HR manager in Alkhobar-based Saudi KAD and brought his family on a visa to the Kingdom for Umrah, one of his friends told Arab News on Friday.

The injured were rushed to the hospital by highway traffic authorities on life support systems, he said.

He added that Bashir's relatives in Kashmir have been informed and they are deeply traumatized.

Specially traveling on road to Makka, Madeenah from Riyadh, east are very dangerous.

People knowingly venture such dangerous act.
The safest journey is by bus or by air, not by small vehicles.

May Allah guide all.

Mangaluru, May 4: A tragic incident unfurled last evening in Subrahmanya of Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kananda, where a young gentleman, who had recently entered the bonds of matrimony a mere ten days hence, met his untimely demise due to a lightning strike.

As twilight descended, a tempestuous thunderstorm, accompanied by billowing rain clouds, cast its shadow over the locale.

Somasundar was diligently engaged in the task of piling up dried nuts in the yard to shield them from the impending deluge, when fate cruelly intervened, subjecting him to the fatal force of a lightning bolt.

Despite the expeditious efforts to convey him to Kadaba Community Hospital subsequent to his sudden indisposition, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Somasundar, who operated a car washing enterprise in proximity to Subrahmanya, is mourned by his mother, sister, and wife.

Mangaluru, May 3: The Mangaluru City Corporation will resort to water rationing from May 5 as the Thumbe vented dam, which supplies drinking water to the city, is facing a shortage in water storage.

Instead of daily supply, water will be supplied on alternate days, the Executive Engineer (Water Supply) at the corporation said in a release.

The release said that water will be supplied to Mangaluru City North on May 5. There will be no water supply to Mangaluru City North on May 6. Instead water will be supplied to Mangaluru City South on May 6. Likewise the supply on alternate days will continue.

The inflow in the Netravathi has stopped, the release said, requesting people to cooperate with the corporation and not waste water for washing vehicles and other purposes.

An engineer at the corporation said that water level at the dam stood at 4.27 m on Wednesday against the full storage level of 6 m. If water is supplied daily to the entire city (Mangaluru City North and Mangaluru City South) the existing storage will last only for 16 days, the engineer said. Hence the decision to supply water on alternate days has been taken to supply water till May-end.

Mangaluru: Former MLC Ivan D’Souza on Monday led a delegation to the Passport Seva Kendra in Mangaluru, urging the authorities to provide basic facilities for applicants. D’Souza addressed the media, highlighting the lack of essential amenities at the Mangaluru PSK. “I have requested the authorities to provide basic facilities for people visiting the PSK.

There are no chairs for the convenience of people who arrive at the PSK. They are forced to sit or stand by the side of the road or on footpaths. Additionally, there is no parking facility, no washrooms, and water has not been provided for the public,” the Congress leader stated.

An average of 500 to 600 people from various parts of the state visit the PSK. They have to wait in the scorching heat of the sun, D’Souza mentioned, urging the govt to address these issues promptly. “Officials have agreed to find solutions to the problems faced by the people. Meanwhile, we have also demanded that the PSK be relocated to a more convenient space. We have suggested that the PSK could be moved to the old DC’s office, where there is sufficient space. If our demands are not met, we will hold a protest,” D’Souza explained.

Ashraf Kinara, vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada Waqf Advisory Committee, echoed the sentiment, stating that the authorities should either provide all basic facilities for passport applicants at the PSK or relocate the centre to a better location.
