St Agnes College firm on dress code, says a few students were ‘instigated’ by CFI

Mangaluru, Jun 29: Refusing to yield to the demands of the protesters, city-based St Agnes College has made it clear that the dress code was already specified, accepted by student and their parents during admission and there won’t be exception.

Earlier this week, a few Muslim students of the college under the aegis of the Campus Front of India, had staged a protest to exert pressure on the college authorities to allow them to wear headscarf as part of hijab inside classroom.

According to the college authorities, the protesting student had admitted to them that they were instigated by 'strangers' from the CFI to voice against the rules and norms of the college.

Speaking to the media, Principal of St Agnes College, Sr Dr Jeswina AC also clarified no action were taken against the protesting students, besides summoning their parents.

"None of the students were suspended, however we have asked them to give a 'explanation' in writing in the presence of their parents since the protest was carried out without prior permission," she said.

Dr Jeswina also added that following the protest, a lot of false propaganda have been floated against the college by certain instigators.

"None of the students were touched or had their headscarf removed by any of our faculty. Neither we have taken their signature in blank papers, these rumours are absolutely baseless to malign the image of the college," she said.

Questioned on the religious headgear worn by Catholic nuns at the Educational institute, Dr Jeswina said that they allowed it, since it was a 'Uniform' for them and not an circumstantial/occasional attire. They have to wear it throughout day to night, she said.

Meanwhile, Naureen, Vice President of St Agnes Student Council, who is also a Muslim, said that the female students were instigated by a Whatsapp group 'Justice for Scarf and Namaz'. "Few days back even I was added to this group along with other Agnes students, but I did not appreciate the conversation and the context. Subsequently I  exited from the group. However my number was anonymously circulated I have been receiving wielded threats from an unidentified male from Saudi Arabia," she said.

Dr Jeswina added that in concern of Naureen's security they plan to file a complaint and share the number with Cyber cell. Meanwhile, the College authorities has already been provided round the clock security following the incident.

Speaking to the media, Anees Sheikh, the father of a student, who had taken part in the protest, said that his daughter was unnecessarily dragged to the issue by CFI. "My daughter was just called by this group to discuss the matter outside college gate. But when the media arrived in the scene, she was pressurised to make a statement by CFI. Clearly instigated by them, my daughter made certain statements. At this age it is easy for children to fall for pressure of such groups. The matter is blown out of proportion, whereas I certainly feel that this is an internal matter and it can be resolved by the school management and administration," he said.

It’s very easy to pressurize student and their parents by the college, by threatening parents and student ruin their life by rusticating the student. As we have seen in “3 idiots” movie.

Now it Looks like college want to DIVERT THE ISSUE FROM HIJAB TO DEFAMING CFI.

In press meet we can clearly make out the principal is acting in very submissive way, acting like VICTIM.

But WHY “PRINCIPAL IS DEFENDING HER RIGHT TO WEAR SCARF & SAME TIME STUDENT IS NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR THE SCARF….”  Why college has made such double standard rule in first place…?

You can THREATEN STUDENTs & THEIR PARENTS…. But your Hypocrisy is EXPOSED anyway….

First of all please let me know in which version of the Bible it says not to marry and become Priests and Nuns. There is no priesthood Islam, so men and woman all have to follow its teaching. When Muslim woman wearing Hijab it is oppression But when Nun wear it is decoration. Why Priest are not made to cover their head like Nuns?.”.Read the below verse of Bible and know who is dominating who; If a woman does not cover her head, let her hair be cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.… A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.…( 1 CORINTHIANS 11:6-9)

Congrats to Naureen. Muslim girls like you are asset of the nation. Don’t hesitate to go and file complaint against those who issue you threats. They are jihadists. People like them had tried to kill Malala too. I am sure that you will face more threats in future from thirbokis. But believe me, the more threats you receive, the more you become stronger.

We were about to convince the college management to go soft on Muslim students and allow them to wear headscarf. But these protesters played spoilsport and politicized the issue. Now, muslim students of St Agnes college are extremely embarrassed because of the protest and subsequent developments.

Agree everything. But why differentiate between hijab of a Christian woman and Hijab of a Muslim woman? If headscarf is banned then Christian nuns/sisters also should not be allowed to cover their head.

Gokarna (Uttara Kannada): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday said the Congress will decide about making him the Chief Minister in future, bringing to the fore again the issue of leadership change.

There was stiff competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for the Chief Minister's post after the Assembly election results in May last year, and the Congress had managed to convince the latter and made him the Deputy Chief Minister.

There were some reports at the time that a compromise had been reached based on a "rotational Chief Minister formula," according to which Shivakumar will become CM after two-and-half years but they have not been officially confirmed by the party.

During a temple visit here, a priest prayed that God's blessings may be showered on Shivakumar, and he became the Chief Minister.

Speaking to reporters here in Uttara Kannada district, Shivakumar, who has in the past made no secret of his ambition to become Chief Minister, amid speculations of change in guard mid-way of the Assembly term, responded to talk in some political circles about the leadership issue.

"What's wrong if a priest expresses his desire before God while praying? The priest has expressed his desire. Now Siddaramaiah is the Chief Minister, I'm working as Deputy Chief Minister under him, also as party's state President. People speak about it and desiring it (Shivakumar should become CM) is a different matter, it will be decided by our party," Shivakumar said.

"Now we are all working under the leadership of Siddaramaiah, and our desire is that the state should progress further under his leadership," he said.

"There will be people including supporters and priests, who pray for us, they will express their opinion. Can we stop them from doing it? At the temple it is between God and his disciple, they have expressed their feelings to God," Shivakumar added.

Mangaluru, Mar 18: The rising temperature has become a growing concern for residents of coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, as the issue of drinking water shortage continues to worsen in several parts.

Though the water supply of Mangaluru city has not been affected much, nearby urban local bodies, including Ullal, Kotekar, Bajpe and other parts on the outskirts of Mangaluru have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water.

Though the water level in the Thumbe vented dam across Nethravati River has started going down in the last few days, officials have ruled out possibility of rationing the water supply in the city.

According to officials, the water level at Thumbe dam of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) stood at 5.8 m as against the maximum storage capacity of 6m height on March 16. The water level at the dam during the same period last year was 5.3 metres. The water level reduced from 5.9 m on March 15 to 5.8 m on March 16 due to the scorching heat, causing evaporation.

The MCC has been drawing 160 MLD of water from the Thumbe vented dam. According to officials, without inflow, the maximum water stored in the dam will be sufficient for only 50 days. Meanwhile, the MCC has already started pumping backwater from downstream of the Thumbe vented dam back to the dam using pumpsets. Water from Thumbe dam can be drawn only if it has more than 1.5m of water in it.

DC Mullai Muhilan MP said that the district administration is closely monitoring water levels in all the dams that supply water.

The AMR dam located upstream of Thumbe dam has 18 m of water from sea level. If the water level in the Thumbe vented dam recedes, then water from the AMR dam will be released into the Thumbe dam. There is water in a dam at Biliyoor, which is located upstream of the AMR dam, the DC said.

“Drawing water for irrigation purposes from Thumbe and AMR dams has been banned,” the deputy commissioner said, adding that an order in this regard has already been issued. Some of the pockets in rural areas too have started facing water crisis.

“We have made arrangements to supply water through tankers in Ullal, Kotekar and Bajpe areas. We will not introduce water supply rationing in MCC limits for the time being,” he said and appealed to citizens to use water judiciously.

At least seven people have been killed when Israeli warplanes bombed an emergency center in southern Lebanon near the border with the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories with air-to-surface missiles, according to Lebanese security sources.

Two sources, speaking on condition of anonymity said early on Wednesday that the strike targeted the Islamic Group’s emergency and relief center in Lebanon’s southern village of Habbariyeh.

Jamaa Islamiya, a Lebanese group closely linked to the Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, said in a statement that “a number” of people had been killed, and called the strike a “heinous crime.”

An official from the group said “seven rescuers” were killed in the aerial assault.

Another Jamaa Islamiya official, also requesting anonymity, said a dozen medical staff were in the emergency center at the time of the strike, adding that bodies were being pulled from the rubble.

Lebanese lawmaker Hassan Mrad said “the Israeli aggression on Habbariyeh adds to the long list of Israeli crimes.”

Israel has been launching air strikes against Lebanon since the beginning of its onslaught against the Gaza Strip in early October.

An Israeli strike knocked down part of a building in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatiyeh on February 14, killing seven members of the same family, including a child, Lebanon’s official National News Agency said. A boy initially reported missing was found alive under the rubble.

In a separate Israeli attack, a woman and her two children were killed in the village of as-Sawana in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli regime launched its devastating hostilities in the Gaza Strip on October 7 after the territory’s Hamas-led Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.

Israel's raids have resulted in retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory operations as long as the Tel Aviv regime continues its onslaught on Gaza.

The Israeli campaign in Gaza has killed at least 32,414 people, most of them women and children. Another 74,787 individuals have also been wounded.
