Mangaluru, Nov 12: The compilation of a new Beary-Kannada-English dictionary under the aegis of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy was formally launched by Dakshina Kannada district president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad Pradeep Kumar Kalkura at the academy office here on Tuesday.
The compilation of the trilingual dictionary will be done under the editorship of B M Ichlumgodu.
Lauding the efforts of the academy in bringing out a trilingual dictionary, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said that compiling a dictionary would help preserve the language and promote it among people. Not limited merely to Beary language, the dictionary will also contribute towards Kannada language and its culture, he said.
The launch of the compilation was presided by president of Beary Sahitya Academy B A Mohammed Haneef.
Prof M V Navada, K P Rao, Dr N Ismail, former Rajya Sabha member B Ibrahim, registrar of the academy Umarabba, academy members Yusuf Vaktar, Idinabba, Hameed Goltamajalu and others were present on the occasion.
