Mangalore, May 16: Several key leaders of Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) have bitten the dust in Karnataka in 2014 general elections.
Interestingly, most of the bigwigs of BJP including former CMs D V Sadananda Gowda, B S Yeddyurappa, Shobha Karandlaje, Ananth Kumar, Sri Ramulu, Prahalhad Joshi have managed to secure victory across Karnataka.
Former prime minister and former chief minister H D Deve Gowda has retained Hassan seat as expected. Meanwhile, his son former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who plunged into poll fray in last minutes to “teach a lesson” to another former chief minister M Veerappa Moil, faced defeat in Chikkaballapur.
However, another former chief minister Dharam Singh was defeated at the hands of BJP candidate Bhagwanth Khuba in Bidar constituency, in spite of Muslim majority.
Former Union minister B Janardhana Poojary's disgraceful defeat against BJP's tainted candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel was quite unexpected.
Two enthusiastic Congress leaders, K Jayaprakash Hegde and Ramya, who had entered the Lok Sabha through recent bypolls from Udupi-Chikmagalur and Mandya constituencies respectively have conceded their defeats.
BJP national secretary Ananth Kumar has registered his sixth consecutive victory from the Bangalore South dealing a devastative blow to Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.
In Mysore former journalist and political greenhorn Pratap Simha of BJP has defeated chief minister Siddaramaiah's right hand A H Vishwanath.
