Mangaluru, May 2: A grand exhibition and sale of handloom cotton garments and handicrafts directly from artisans and weavers - Cotton and Silk Fab - 2015 organised by Rajasthan Art Collection from Jaipur, was inaugurated at Hotel Woodlands in the heart of the city on Saturday.
The exhibition of handloom cotton fabrics and garments was inaugurated by Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Jacintha Alfred, who appealed to people to visit the exhibition and purchase the colourful garments brought by artisans from different states such as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Kashmir.
There are a variety of exquisite handloom cotton fabrics and sarees from the looms of Jaipur, Kota, Varanasi, Kashmir, Kolkata and Lucknow. People have a range of handloom garments to choose from fabrics with Chikan embroidery from Lucknow, Rajasthani traditional block printing, Varanasi cotton, Kantha embroidery from West Bengal, Applique work, Kashmiri embroidery, Pashmina shawls, Bagh prints, Khadi cotton and several others.
The exhibition also includes imitation jewellery, earthern decorative pots, handwoven purses, handbags, shawls, wooden crafts and several handicrafts from different groups of artisans. One of the main features of the exhibition apart from handlooms is Madhubani paintings from Bihar.
The exhibition-cum-sale will be organised till May 17 at Hotel Woodlands, said convenor of the exhibition Dinesh Sharma.
