Mangalore, Sep 14: Due to technical glitches, a Tata Indica four-wheeler erupted into flames and was reduced to smithereens and ashes in Velligudde on Mastikatte-Vidyagiri road in Moodbidri town municipality limits on Saturday.
No causalities were reported in the mishap which occurred at around 9.30 a.m. on Saturday.
The Tata Indica belonged to Narayan, a resident of Kallamundkuri near Moodbidri. The incident occurred when he was returning home after dropping his wife to her parents' residence in Bantwal.
While he was driving back to Moodbidri, Narayan sensed something burning and immediately stopped the car to check the case. As he alighted from the car to check, he saw flames emerging from under the hood of the vehicle. The interior of the vehicle swiftly caught fire and the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames in a matter of seconds.
Residents around the scene of the mishap gathered and began efforts to try and extinguish the fire. Vasu Poojary and his neighbours began to spray water on the burning car but were unsuccessful in reducing the intensity of the fire.
