Bangalore, December 22: Apparently wilting under pressure to perform, a fifth semester engineering student committed suicide by drinking a soft drink laced with unidentified poison, in his hostel room in Anekal on Tuesday night.

Akash, a native of Shimoga and student of electronic and computer sciences stream in Sirsi Sai Engineering College in Anekal, was found unconscious in his hostel room by his friends. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Earlier, he had told his friends that he would join them for dinner but stayed back in his room. On returning from dinner, Akash's friends found his room locked from inside and broke open the door to find him frothing at the mouth.

Police said Akash did not leave behind a suicide note, and his friends told them he was not doing well in his studies and pushing himself too hard.
